Summary

In the case of the Basque Country, boosting the circular economy means committing to “greening” manufacturing, products, consumption and end-of-life, through public-private collaboration. Basque country has a long culture of networking and public-private collaboration and an average to high position on the “regional innovation scoreboard”.

Summary

The Circular Friesland Association (Vereniging Circulair Friesland) was initiated by coorporations within Friesland, later drawing in the provincial municipalities as partners. There was an acceptance that future business models would have to change due to the changing state of natural resources. In Friesland the chains are short and most parties are already familiar with eachother, allowing the concept of circular economy to be absorbed in the transition that was already taking place within the area.

Summary

ITIA-CNR continuously supports the competitiveness of the manufacturing sector by bringing innovation in the factory. The enabling technologies and tools developed by their Research Departments are used to realize physical pilot factories which represent valuable platforms to support industrial research and the transfer of research results to companies. One example is a pilot plant for the De–and Remanufacturing of automotive mechatronic components. Some others research fields in addition to demanufacturing are Industrial Products-Service System and Product-Service Systems across Life Cycle or the future of 3D-printing.

Summary

The Brussels-Capital Region has granted a budget of € 60,000 to UCM to test a support module for SMEs (less than 10 people) over Product-Service System. From March 2014 to December 2014, seven companies (2 start-up and 5 existing companies) have followed the individual and collective support module. The selected SME starts with an individual interview or pre-diagnosis made by UCM to suggest to most relevant model/tool based on its profile. Then, the SME follows 6 collective sessions, complemented by two personal meetings with a consultant, over 10 months and a regular follow up by UCM.
