Summary

The Scottish Institute for Remanufacture (SIR) is funded by the Scottish Funding Council and Zero Waste Scotland. Hosted at the University of Strathclyde, SIR is a pan Scotland centre of excellence to increase innovation in remanufacturing. By stimulating and co-funding collaborative projects that address industry challenges it enables companies to increase reuse, repair and remanufacture in their manufacturing operations.

Summary

The Circular Friesland Association (Vereniging Circulair Friesland) was initiated by coorporations within Friesland, later drawing in the provincial municipalities as partners. There was an acceptance that future business models would have to change due to the changing state of natural resources. In Friesland the chains are short and most parties are already familiar with eachother, allowing the concept of circular economy to be absorbed in the transition that was already taking place within the area.

Summary

The Ecodynamic enterprise label was created in 1999 by Brussels Environment. This Environmental Management System (EMS) offers private companies and public administrations with a systematic approach to lowering their impact on the environment. The “Ecodynamic enterprise” label is an official recognition of good environmental management practices by the Brussels-Capital Region. It encourages the introduction of an EMS, with a view towards eventual EMAS or ISO 14001 registrations. There are three levels depending on the initial level of environmental performance within the organisation. Each level is symbolised by stars. Applications are evaluated based on a large range of criteria. These criteria concern specific ecomanagement actions, quality of the environmental review, and the plan of actions established.

De Site project in Ghent

Summary

The Site (De site) is a meeting point for local residents in Ghent of different population group, nationalities and people of different ages. This kind of meeting place is created not only by providing the necessary infrastructure (including a 3000 m² urban horticulture plot, mini kitchen gardens, a multi-purpose sports terrain, containers to provide material storage and work space, etc.), but also by developing projects with appropriate content (relating to both the neighbourhood and beyond).
